Comments from Mr. Smith:

  • Wanted to make it a track car but it only had 42k km on it when I got it plus all options (AC, power windows, sound deasening)

  • I did import the car in 1994. I bought it from a retired USAF colonel, and it had a title from the USAF. I couldn't transfer the title in Italy or Holland, so I flew home and tried. The first DMV said no, and I was a bit worried, but then went to a second one, who, after a couple hours and a couple of calls to the state office, gave me my plates. I flew back to Amsterdam, and with Florida plates on, drove back to Italy to pick up more spares that came with the car. I was pulled over by Dutch secret police who phoned the insurance company to make sure it was legit. Crossing the Austrian border, a very cute border patro told me I had no front license plate. You should have seen her face when I said we don't have them in Florida. When I was informed the car had arrived at Port Everglades I sent my wife to handle the paperwork. The customs agent couldn't understand why it had Florida plates, and we she told him the PO was in the USAF, he said it must have been here before and released it. No DOT or EPA mess to deal with.
