Further Info:

2017 - A few up to date photos of this car are published at the top of the page. This car has had all the welding and panel work completed and now the underside has been primed, seam sealed and painted with 2k paint before getting an anti stone-chip paint applied to protect it, this was tinted with 10% Polaris silver to give a grey colour.
The engine bay, boot area and car cabin has been primed, seam sealed and sprayed in 2k Polaris silver, we have lacquered the inside too unlike factory. We opted for no sound deadening pads prior to paint as we prefer a totally painted car which sound pads can be added to after.
It’s now having some mechanical parts refitted prior to the outer shell being finished as it means there is less risk damaging a fully painted body when leaning into the car and engine bay. Also the car will sit on it’s wheels and suspension as it will finished so door gaps etc will be as they are.

This car will be used and isn’t a show only car so isn’t having a concourse engine bay and interior so we are just replacing parts where necessary to be safe and reliable. The engine was stripped and cleaned, bores honed and the head had the valves and seats ground but is standard although not matching numbers.
A new wiring loom, fuel pipes, brake pipes, servos, suspension parts, bushes etc are being fitted but the discoloured header tanks etc will stay as they are.

Where possible we do research the correct/ original positions for parts but it’s near impossible to be perfect, as you know people will argue that they are right but have different opinions from factory.

This car is now in my paintshop for the shiny bit.

2015 -. Reportedly re-shelled (using a 3.0 CSA donor, shell marked VIN 2285487 but this is clerly wrong and due to the re-shelling using a CSA in the late 1980s.) shortly after acquisition in 1988, Mr Johnson's custodianship is further understood to have seen `WAL 857M' fitted with a replacement factory remanufactured engine before being laid-up during 1999. Mr John Castle of the BMW CS Register has kindly informed us that such `factory remanufactured' powerplants typically benefited from the following new parts: engine block, crankshaft, v-belt pulley, vibration damper, cylinder head (including camshaft and valve train), rocker cover, timing chain cover, sump, oil pump, water pump and thermostat etc. Last of BMW stock 3.2 litre  fitted by Munich legends. A 3.2 litre Bosch D-Jetronic fuel-injected M30 unit, the straight-six is said to (a) have been got running last year after fuel was introduced directly into its inlet manifold and (b) have covered a modest post-installation mileage (500 miles). Sporting an authentic CSL-type three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, Scheel sports seats, alloy bonnet/boot/doors and Alpina wheels, the Coupe also has the number 04DA4917994 stamped into its offside top strut (intriguingly Alpina later used the same location for build numbers while their UK agents were Sytners of Nottingham). Showing an unwarranted 29,517 miles to its odometer, `WAL 857M' entered the current ownership via our June 2014 Rockingham Castle sale for £14,972. Sadly ill health has prevented the vendor from undertaking the recommissioning / restoration work that this appealing BMW requires. Offered for sale strictly as viewed, it is accompanied by a UK V5C Registration Document and sundry paperwork.
