Modifications and restorations: notes from 2010 (Courtesie Bonhams):
This CSL has been restored once (in June 1991)
receiving new wings, 'A' posts, etc. In 1999 the suspension was
altered to incorporate new springs (making the car approximately
20mm lower), Bilstein shock absorbers and a thicker front anti-roll
bar. These changes give the car a much more positive feel while
retaining the very comfortable ride for long distances. Car also got
fitted the 'Batmobile' body kit and a stainless
steel exhaust system.
In 2002 the gearbox was changed from the original four-speed to a
five-speed close-ratio dog-leg unit. The engine was removed in 2007
at a mileage reading of 8,817 and rebuilt: being
blueprinted/balanced and fitted with 0.5mm oversize genuine BMW
pistons. At the same time all the ancillaries were replaced: starter
motor, injectors, alternator, distributor, water pump, radiator,
hoses, both brake servos, etc. While the engine was removed the
engine bay was refurbished. The car has always been maintained
regardless of cost with all work being professionally carried out by
Jaymic Ltd.
Car is in generally very good/excellent
condition. The car is offered with the original owner's handbook and
rare CSL supplement, (tax-exempt) road fund licence, MoT to June
2011, Swansea V5, BMW Magazine article and a most substantial file
of receipts for work/parts dating back to 1978. Also included in the
sale is the original four-speed gearbox, the original alloy boot lid
and the original uncut rear window shelf.
