Number 67 of the 500 UK cars sold, this Chamonix White example was first registered in October 1972 and has had just two owners from new, both resident in London. The current vendor acquired the car in September 1983 when it had just under 54,000 miles on the clock and was registered MPP 30L. He put a private plate on the car, 39 R, and ran it around daily until 1987 when the rising cost of fuel led him to buy a more economical car while the BMW was kept garaged and reserved for high days and holidays only.

Later that year, with some 73,000 miles on the clock, the car was entrusted to Charles Turner of Crystal Palace for a body restoration and bare metal respray. All traces of rust were removed and new front wings and inner sills fitted before the whole car was thoroughly waxoiled in a process which took over two years to complete and was recorded on photographs. The private plate was removed and the car was re-registered as TGC 663L.

The top end of the engine was also rebuilt in October 1989 with a new camshaft, timing chain, valve seals etc. Since then it has covered less than 1,000 miles and has been used regularly but sparingly. It certainly fired up readily and ran very nicely when we were treated to a lengthy test drive on the occasion of our visit to take these photos. The interior is all original and is in good condition throughout with a more comfortable Scheel Touring seat fitted for the driver, although a spare Scheel bucket seat is also included.

Currently taxed and due to have a fresh MOT before the sale, the car comes with many bills back to 1983 to show regular maintenance and some 15 old MOTs back to 1978 at 50,205 miles. Other literature includes the original owner’s manual plus rare CSL Supplement, an operating manual for the original Pioneer radio cassette (still fitted), a factory maintenance manual in English running to some 200 pages and a Jaymic parts catalogue. There are also various spares including a sixth alloy wheel and a windscreen wiper motor, the one currently fitted being somewhat noisy in operation.
