Restoration:

2014: Car has received a 2 year nut and bolt restoration by RS Garage (on FB - http://rsgarage.com.pt/) in Porto, Portugal. Previously, regular care provided a sound base for a full restoration. Result includes good panel gaps and smooth straight flanks. All of the chrome work has been addressed, rubber seals replaced and glass crystal clear. The headlights are brand new as are the indicator lens.

Undercarriage looks as above with all components treated and rebuilt.

The interior ensures the original factory finish with the original color scheme. The black headlining and carpet specific to the CSL has been replaced with an exact copy.

Factory door seals and window seals have all been renewed and the plastic carpet covers are still present and in excellent order.

The engine has been fully rebuilt. Every component attached has been stripped down and replated or replaced.

The gearbox has been rebuilt with new bushes for the linkage providing a tight and positive shift.

The period 14 inch BMW wheels are refurbished and present as new with chrome centre caps, new stickers and wheel bolts. Recent tires, new calipers, discs and pads all round.

All suspension components have been renewed with new shocks, ball joints and rubber bushes complimenting an incredible restoration and contributing to a tight and responsive drive as if it were new back in 1972.

Provided with a huge pile of invoices from BMW main dealer Peter West, and owned by the chairman himself at one stage. Included are pictures of the car itself outside the dealer and the dealership still present on the key ring.

Complementing the service records are MOTs dating back to 1982 and a host of BMW Car club correspondents and magazines, one of which asking the then owner Mr W.J Oxtoby to return The Sytner Trophy won in the 1987 regional concours event with the car.

On file is a full photographic album of the restoration from start to finish showing the intense and lengthy effort that has been lavished on this historic BMW touring car.

  • 2008 -> Owner from Singapore who had had the car for a short time only (not sure where he bought it from)

  • 1990's -> 2007: same BMW dealer Peter West

  • 1974/5 - > early 1990's: Ex footballer W.J Oxtoby (Bill Oxtoby), from Scunthorpe. Bill partially exchanged the car against a BMW 3 series

  • 1972 - > 1974/5: BMW Dealer (maybe Peter West or BMW demonstrator)

  • Registration in 05/09/1972 (assumed September 5th)
