The aggressive styling and performance of the BMW CSL or Coupe Sport
Leichtmetal made it a popular and successful choice for drivers of
the 70's European Touring Car Championships. Its success in this
event was the publicity that BMW used to promote this new road going
'lightweight' version of the 3.0 litre CS that was already in
production. This homologation special featured aluminium bonnet,
boot and doors saving a total 300lbs in weight over the standard
steel constructed CS. This CSL is one of the 500 original right hand
drive cars, from a total of only 1,039 produced and comes with
several BMW Drivers Club valuations stating it as a genuine CSL.
Registered in 1972 it was fitted with a genuine BMW 'Batmobile'
Spoiler Kit, to resemble the competition Touring Car of the
day.Rebuilt in 1988 / 89 the potent 3.0, straight six engine was
converted from fuel injection to triple carbs and has only covered
little mileage since the rebuild. Finished in white with the period
blue and red racing stripes the current owner states the car is
mechanically in excellent condition, while the matching black cloth
interior is in good order.
