2285001
Title: Circa
1980: 72 BMW (plate owned actually by the London CSL Centre in the
early 80's). This plate is visible on a handful of cars.
Model Code: 3452
The image shows the car waiting for collection in 1997 when it last changed hands, after an auction in Sydney, Australia. The car is believed to have been privately exported from the UK to Sydney in the early-to-mid 1980s, later moving to live with its then owner in the country, in the New England region of New South Wales (NSW). The car looks very much the same today, except that the Rial(?) wheels are in storage — the car now wears genuine 14" Alpina wheels donated by another Oz owner of a RHD CSL. It would look better with bigger diameter wheels but this car is to be kept in original specification. The horrid yellow, NSW registration plates, were gone in the first two weeks of ownership. On Saturday, 20 September 2003, a classic BMW sports car waits for the passing of a heritage steam train at Prairie in the Australian State of Victoria. The BMW is on a 1,800km tour from its home in Sydney, NSW to Adelaide, South Australia. Steamrail’s special tour train is on its way from Bendigo to Swan Hill, hauled by a former Victorian Railways D3 Class steam locomotive (D3 639, built by Victorian Railways, Newport Workshops [Melbourne], entered service on 26-Oct-1903). Color: Ceylon metallic (008) The car wears its original color (but not the original paint). 2285001 was the first BMW of any model, to wear the Ceylon Gold color.
History:
2285001 changed hands in the mid-1980s and, following
its purchase by an expatriate Australian living in the
UK, was exported to Australia when he returned home.
Later, it was purchased by a second Australian before
being sold at auction in Sydney, in 1997, to the current
owner. The car is fully road-registered in the State of
New South Wales (as at early 2014) and will undergo a
full restoration in coming years."
Restoration:
BMW's Ceylon Gold colour first appeared on this specific car, even though the actual paint is not the original (probably a 1980s respray, which will be bare-metal removed and completely restored). Owner:
