Modification: Upgrade from a 30CSL to an Alpina B2S

History:

Tetsu Maeda, who owns a BMW 30 CSL converted into an Alpina B2S, says that from an early age he desired the 3.0CLS of Hayato Peterson, who appeared in "The Wolf of the Circuit". So, in 1995, he purchased a 3.0CSL in the United States for about $40,000 to make his dream come true.  "Obviously, at the time, we were talking by phone and fax, so we didn't know the condition of the car. I knew that the car I purchased was not in good condition, so when I saw the actual car at Nagoya Port, I didn't get too impatient." First of all, I retrofitted the carburetor to Weber Co., Ltd. in the shop in Mie Prefecture, so that it could run normally.

Actually, when I bought 3.0CSL, I decided to finish it as a B2S. Before i purchased it, I learned about the existence of B2S in CAR GRAPHIC, and I was attracted by the high design and driving performance." I entrusted the car to Shuichi Hirasawa who left the police because of the love of E9, and the shop of old BMW "Cs Garage" and "Nagareyama City, Chiba Prefecture" to transform the CSL into a B2S. "I ordered everything from my home country to retrofit everything into alpina parts. The engine body (new) was also ordered from Alpina's headquarters. At the time, nicole, who was an importer of Alpina, wrote in an ad that said, "We sell the engine alone."  The retrofit engine was said to be a thing of "B9" and "E28". At that time, alpina headquarters had a room with shelves with a number of engines. "The individual i purchased was alpina from the start with the steering wheel, but everything else was different, so I ordered all the Alpina parts.

It was also very difficult to handle rust." It took about six years for Maeda's 3.0CSL to be completed in B2S. In the meantime, he was not able to ride once. I hear that the expense to be worried about became a total of 10,000,000 yen.

What was your impression when you first drove the finished 3.0CSL? "I ran the main course at Fuji Speedway, and in a nutshell, it was a "fake." It's fast anyway. I went 260km/h straight."  It's been about 18 years since it was finished as you wished. In the meantime, there was no major trouble, but because it was retrofit to the Engine of the B9, Maeda said, "There was a problem such as the drive shaft bent because of the mighty power." It is maintained once a year and the oil is changed every 5000km. The basic is that he has asked a shop in Mie Prefecture, his hometown, and he brings it to CS Garage, which Hirasawa-san runs, depending on his symptoms. The 3.0CSL B2S, which i see up close for the first time, seems to be in very good condition. There are no aluminum doors, no dents. Original parts such as tower bar are also attached. 1 "The 3.0CSL B2S we own is recognized by Alpina's headquarters. I was previously honored at an event hosted by Nicole, who is an importer of Alpina." Maeda's 3.0CSL is a B2S. It is an episode which tightens the flexibility of Alpina. Come to think of it, when I interviewed the owner who owns the B8 e36, I remembered that he had told me that he had made a door mirror and body color for the M3 e36, which was not set. "We put our hands on various driving-related parts, such as oil coolers that are not originally fitted. Ignition system and fuel supply device were also retrofit to the latest type. That's because if it gets more than 250km/h, the fuel supply will not catch up." I don't want to give it to anyone. It is said that some interiors were put in, but most remain original. "The wood panels remain original, but the shift knobs were retrofit to Alpina's. The seat is now being re-stored, so i'm retrofit to Cobra(UK)." The original sheet is now restored by Maeda himself. "I'm always doing my own maintenance of construction machinery owned by a construction company, so I'm good at playing with cars," he says. The current mileage is estimated to be approximately 120,000 km. Maeda says, "The annual mileage is about 2000 km. Basically, it rides only in spring and autumn when the climate is cool. All that's left is to attend the event." "NICOLE Circuit Day", sponsored by the Nicole Group, which is an importer of Alpina, is said to often participate in the fuji speedway and irregular events. "When you go to NICOLE Circuit Day, you'll find c.H. at the top of the Nicole Group. Nico Loreke asked me if I could give you a B2S. And half joke, but is asked half seriously, but i refuse carefully. It's a car i've decided to own for the rest of my life." Maeda now owns porsche cayenne and ruf's 911 (964). However, the feelings of 3.0CSL B2S are very different from other cars. "It's a car that i've been working on for years, so I have a strong feeling. It is one that i brought it up with hand salt. Do you understand the family? 3.0CSL B2S seems to have given up on it .) In addition to his childhood longing, Maeda's passion for alpina has come to fruition. It is also acceptable to want to continue to own 3.0CSL B2S for the rest of your life. Fumi, Kuniyasu Inagaki (GQ) Photography, Hiromitsu Yasui (Weekend.)
