BMW 30 race 2211352

April 29 and 30th 1972: race beginning of the CSL registered as 2800CS

BMW 30 race 2211352

Rob Slotemaker's CSL could not initially race because the CSL was not yet homologated. The car was then presented as a 2800 CS and could finally race.

Title: 49-00-TM

History:

  • Levi's Jean livery was fitted in 1975 during the car's best year with wins in Holland

  • Sixth CSL built (seventh if you count the prototype). It is the very first CSL to have reached a race track but not the first to race.

  • This car that went for the first race in April 1972 at Zandvoort and a CSL and the scrutineers sent it home, because it was not homologated, I even have a picture from that day, when it wasn't allowed to race. BMW had told national dealers they would get homologation on April 1, it was a good April fools joke because they didn't get CSL homologation until Jan 73 and Batmobile homologation until July 73. So every CSL that raced in 1972 had to "pretend" it was a CS, the Rally car was the same, even though that was manufactured as a CSL as well.

  • Rob drove this car in 1972, it then was driven by some very famous drivers for the Dutch National Racing Team (DNRT) but photos from the pits show all the original Alpina Mechanics with it as Alpina built the car and looked after it for them at races.

Owner:

  • 2013->current ->: Peter Gleeson

  • Frits Van Eerd who purchased all of Ben Huismans collection

  • Ben Huismans collection

  • Production: August 30th 1971
